The first lighting gas plant for the illumination of city streets with 678 gas lanterns was established in Riga.

The gas plant was established in the place where the site of Latvijas Gāze is located now.

The total length of gas network pipelines exceeds 130 km.

Natural gas is pumped into the Inčukalns underground gas storage facility for the first time. Today, the facility is an integral part of the regional gas supply system, where gas is stored for the needs of consumers in Latvia as well as neighbouring countries.

Consumption of natural gas in Latvia rises to a record level of almost 3 billion m³ per year.

After the fall of the Soviet Union, the government of Latvia takes over the entire gas supply infrastructure and institutions in the territory of Latvia, which are merged into the state-owned company Latvijas Gāze.

Latvijas Gāze is privatized. The company acquires private shareholders and funds for development, while the state receives EUR 80 million from investors, and residents exchange a significant number of privatization vouchers, later selling the acquired shares profitably on the stock exchange.

Latvijas Gāze invested 240 million in development of the company and completed construction of the 1400 km-long natural gas mine.

In 2016 the first stage of Latvijas Gāze reorganization took place and on 2 January, 2017 Conexus Baltic Grid was established.

After reorganization, natural gas transmission and storage activities were seperated from Latvijas Gāze. JSC Conexus Baltic Grid manages the Inčukalns underground gas storage and natural gas transmission system, which connects the Latvian natural gas market with Lithuania, Estonia and the northwest region of Russia.

JSC Conexus Baltic Grid is a closed joint-stock company whose share ownership is registered in the shareholder register. For more information please visit: www.conexus.lv

At the beginning of 2017, the unified natural gas transmission and storage operator Conexus Baltic Grid is split from Latvijas Gāze, and by the end of the year becomes a company that partly belongs to the state. At the end of 2017, distribution activity has been separated from Latvijas Gāze and the subsidiary Gaso has been established.
