Excise Tax Changes from January 1st 2025

On January 1st 2025, new excise tax rates for natural gas came into effect, impacting consumers who use it for energy production or other commercial purposes.

According to amendments to the Law on Excise Tax, the following rates apply:

Natural gas for use in agriculture, per 1 kWh

0.00085

What does this mean?
• For companies using natural gas for heating, the rate increases from €0.00165/kWh to €0.00380/kWh (+130%). For 1,000 kWh per month, the bill will increase from €1.65 to €3.80.
• For agriculture, the rate rises from €0.00055/kWh to €0.00085/kWh (+54.55%).
• A new rate is introduced for participants in the EU Emissions Trading System – €0.00208/kWh.
