The panel discussion is part of the international event Blue Corridor Rally as well, which has been promoting the use of natural gas in road transport in Europe for 12 years. The discussion was attended by Tālis Linkaits, Minister of Transport of the Republic of Latvia; Alda Ozola, Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development; Edijs Šaicāns, Director of the Energy and Infrastructure Market Department of the Ministry of Economics; Aigars Kalvītis, Chairman of the Board of Latvijas Gāze; Andris Lukstiņš, Chairman of the Board of the Road Traffic and Safety Directorate; Andris Kulbergs, President of the Latvian Automobile Association; and remotely - by Dr Timm Kehler, Executive Director of the Zukunft Erdgas (German Gas Association).
After the discussion, a conference took place, in which Chairman of the Board of Eco Baltia Group Māris Simanovičs shared his experience in being the first to use rubbish collection trucks that run on compressed natural gas (CNG). Aleksandrs Koposovs, member of the Board of AS Gaso, and Jānis Ščerbinskis, Chairman of the Board of Jēkabpils Autobusu parks, spoke about practical experience in transport operation.
During the event, the development of the network of CNG filling stations, the future possibilities of sustainable transport and the practical benefits of switching to CNG and biomethane in transport were discussed as well. Presentations were given by Jānis Vība, Executive Director of AS “Virši-A”, Jānis Bethers, Head of Latvijas Gāze Business Development, Reinis Bērziņš, Chairman of the Board of ALTUM, and Kaur Sarv, Head of Sustainable Transport Solutions at Scania.
Conference participants were able to see the output of the CNG cars in cooperation with Moller Baltic Import (Audi), Green Motors (Škoda), Autobrava Motors (Fiat and Seat) and Iveco, as well as get acquainted with the offers of Scania and innovative transport solutions company United Energo.
