Identify the employees of the distribution system operator GASO!

Sometimes, servicing and maintenance of the natural gas infrastructure requires specialists to enter a household or yard to take care of the maintenance of the natural gas supply network and to read meter readings.

If there is a place where you should always feel safe, it is your home. After all, it is your place of refuge, privacy, and security. Simple actions such as taking care of the electrical devices, taking care of content you share online, closing doors and windows when leaving the house, and switching from burning candles to LED artificial candles can significantly increase the safety and security of a house. It is important to know the appropriate course of action when it comes to a stranger entering a yard or home. We have put together some tips on how to make sure your house or yard is safe when it comes to natural gas service and maintenance services.

If you are the owner or tenant of a house or apartment, service providers or service staff may appear on your doorstep. In such cases, precautions are especially important to protect yourself, your property, and your household. Sometimes, servicing and maintenance of the natural gas infrastructure requires specialists to enter a household or yard to both take care of the maintenance of the natural gas supply network and to read meter readings. The distribution system operator GASO is the only provider of this service that ensures the continuous and safe operation of the natural gas distribution system in the territory of Latvia.

GASO employees can be identified by the company logo on the employee’s working clothes or vehicle. Ask for an Employee ID Card before admitting the employee to a building or yard.

However, if in doubt, you can contact the distribution system operator GASO to verify the reason and veracity of the employee’s arrival by calling 155 or 67369938 (on working days from 8:00 to 18:00) or by calling 114 (on working days after 18:00 or on weekends).

Representatives of the natural gas distribution system operator shall have the legal right to have unhindered access to the natural gas meters and supply systems during the day (from 8:00 am to 9:00 pm) in order to fulfil the obligations of the distribution system operator specified in regulatory enactments (in accordance with Cabinet Regulation of the Republic of Latvia of 7 February 2017 No. 78 ‘Regulations Regarding the Trade and Use of Natural Gas’).The right to access the dwelling or inspect the property is limited to the employees of GASO in accordance with the procedures applicable to the safety and security of the gas pipelines and systems or to the reading of meters.
