Opening up the natural gas market — lower natural gas prices and friendly service conditions

With the opening of the natural gas market, Latvijas Gāze household customers will be able to pay for natural gas at a 24% to 37% lower price compared to the current regulated natural gas tariff and on customer-friendly terms.

Convenience first

With the full opening of the natural gas market, we will continue to provide our customers with an uninterrupted supply of natural gas, without switching contracts within the UNIVERSAL service. The transition to universal service will be automatic.

The UNIVERSAL service is a convenient and safe service:

  • it is beneficial if natural gas is used for both cooking and heating, as the price is differentiated (adjusted depending on the customer’s annual consumption);
  • it is safe, as it provides for a fixed price of natural gas for 6 months, which will protect against price fluctuations and make it easier to plan expenses;
  • it is without a contract termination fee.

Good price

The first three months of this year have been marked by a more favourable market situation and a significant drop in prices, resulting in a 37% lower natural gas price for households using natural gas for cooking and a 24% lower price for households using natural gas for heating.

For example, a household that uses natural gas for cooking and consumes 4 m3 per month will have an average monthly payment of around 9.58 euro, instead of the previously paid 12.10 euro. Savings of around 15 euro in 6 months. However, a household using natural gas for heating and consuming 180 m3 per month will pay an average monthly payment of around 170.05 euro instead of the current 213.42 euro. Savings per month — 43.37 euro, or 260.22 euro over 6 months.

From 1 May, the price of natural gas will be:

  • for home heating — EUR 0.05985/kWh (natural gas price with excise duty* and VAT 21% — EUR 0.07442/kWh);
  • for cooking — EUR 0.08312/kWh (natural gas price with excise duty* and VAT 21% — EUR 0.10257/kWh).

Report readings

For accurate natural gas consumption metering, we invite you to report your meter readings when the market opens, which will be possible from 27 April to 2 May inclusive. The meter reading can be submitted to Latvijas Gāze via the customer portal (with authorisation) or the website www.lg.lv (without authorisation), or to the distribution system operator AS “Gaso” via text message or via the self-service portal www.gaso.lv (with authorisation).

Save and use natural gas wisely

Making simple changes to your daily habits, improving the energy efficiency of your home or replacing your heating appliance with a newer generation appliance can reduce your natural gas bill in the long term. Read more about energy efficiency in the section Energy Efficiency
