Meter reading
Meter reading
When do I have to report the meter reading?
The period for reporting meter readings is every month from the 27th to the first business day of the next month.
If meter reading is not reported, we will issue an invoice based on the consumption calculated by the distribution system operator GASO. We recommend submitting the meter reading even if you have not consumed natural gas. We recommend submitting the meter reading even if you have not consumed natural gas. Information about the channels for submission of meter readings.
How do you report meter reading?
The fastest and most convenient way to report meter readings is via the customer portal. You can also report the meter reading to the distribution system operator GASO.
You have three options for reporting meter readings:
- Via the client portal
- On our website with your subscriber or contract number
- GASO customer portal
- By calling Gaso to the number 67369938
- By sending a text to 155, containing the following: RAD A00000000 Readings
Enter the market name of your site (can be found in the client portal and in the invoice) instead of ‘A00000000’.
Enter the meter readings (full cubic metres only) instead of ‘Readings’.
How do you read the meter reading correctly?
The meter readings shall be read in whole numbers, all black digits before the decimal point.
I cannot report meter reading. What do I do now?
I cannot report the meter reading during the period of submission.
The meter readings can be reported on specific dates each month – from the 27th of the current month until the 1st working day of the following month. In this case, we will issue a bill based on the consumption calculated by GASO. Provide the actual meter reading in the next submission period, corrections will be made automatically for the previous period as well and will be reflected in the next bill.
I am trying to report the meter reading both in the customer portal and on the website, but it shows a system error, and that the reading data is currently unavailable.
Make sure you have a valid agreement with us. If the agreement is valid, the following message is displayed if a technical problem has occurred, and we do not receive meter reading data from GASO. In this case, try to report the readings on the customer portal later or report them via SMS. Detailed instructions for reporting readings via SMS are available HERE.
I want to report a lower meter reading than GASO calculated, but the system calculates a very high consumption, which is not true.
This is because the readings have not been reported for several years and the system assumes that the meter has come full circle, therefore it calculates a high consumption. You can submit your meter reading by sending a photo of the meter to info@lg.lv, via the distribution system operator’s portal mans.gaso.lv, or by sending an SMS to 155.
If you report such a reading on the Latvijas Gāze customer portal or website, then, depending on the situation, you will see different notifications:
- The reading is not accepted, and an error message is returned: “There have been no readings recorded at the object for more than a year. To report a meter reading, please contact the distribution system operator GASO.”
- The reading is not accepted, and an error message is returned: “The consumption between the entered reading and the previously reported reading exceeds the maximum allowable consumption of the meter.” You can submit your meter reading by sending a photo of the meter to info@lg.lv, via the distribution system operator’s portal mans.gaso.lv, or by sending an SMS to 155.
- The reading is not accepted, and an error message is returned: “The entered reading must be equal to or higher than the control reading recorded during the inspection”.
- The reading is accepted
Previously, I had mistakenly entered a higher reading than the actual one and I cannot correct it to a lower reading.
The meter reading reported on our website for the current month can be corrected by yourself while the reporting period is open. You can correct your submitted meter reading by sending a photo of the meter to info@lg.lv, submitting it via the distribution system operator’s portal mans.gaso.lv, or by sending an SMS to 155.
Ways to submit meter readings.
I have reported an incorrect meter reading, how can I correct it?
Acceptance and processing of meter readings is provided by the distribution system operator GASO. You can correct the meter reading by sending a photo of the meter to the email info@lg.lv, via the distribution system operator’s portal mans.gaso.lv, or by sending an SMS to 155.
I forgot to report the meter reading, what will happen now?
The distribution system operator "Gaso" AS will estimate the readings, making a prediction based on your natural gas consumption history.
We prepere the bill based on "Gaso" AS information about the consumption of gas at your site. In this case we urge you to send us the actual readings the next month. The correction will be automatically included in the next bill.
What is kWh?
kWh or kilowatt hours is a unit of energy.
Meter readings must be provided in cubic metres (m³), while payments are made according to the natural gas consumption in kilowatt hours (kWh). The conversion from m³ to kWh is performed using the following formula:
Natural gas volume (m³) × calorific value = natural gas volume (kWh)
The calorific value is the amount of heat that can be obtained by fully burning one cubic metre of gas. The amount of natural gas per cubic metre may vary. It depends both on the temperature of the natural gas and on the pressure, therefore, special devices are installed throughout the territory of Latvia – chromatographs that measure the calorific value in each zone.
Why is the gas unit in the gas bill indicated in kilowatt hours (kWh)? Is gas not measured in cubic metres?
Natural gas consumption and meter readings are still reported in cubic metres (m3), but in accordance with Cabinet of Ministers Regulation No. 78 Regulations Regarding the Trade and Use of Natural Gas, for the purpose of system users settling payments, kilowatt-hours (kWh) are used. This means that we, as a natural gas provider, have an obligation to bill natural gas consumption in kilowatt hours. Such a requirement has been introduced in order to record the natural gas consumed as accurately as possible, as the amount of natural gas per cubic metre may vary. It depends on both the temperature and the pressure of the natural gas.
To calculate consumption in kWh, cubic meters are multiplied by the calorific value coefficient and the static pressure coefficient.
For the convenience of customers, we have a measurement unit calculator, in which by entering your natural gas consumption in cubic metres and choosing the calorific value zone, you can quickly and easily convert your consumption into kilowatt hours.
What is calorific value?
Calorific value is the amount of heat that can be obtained by completely burning 1 m³ of gas. The amount of natural gas in 1 m³ may vary, it depends both on the temperature of the natural gas and on the pressure, therefore, special devices are installed throughout the territory of Latvia – chromatographs, that measure the calorific value in each zone.
The calorific value ratios are used to express the amount of natural gas from m³ in kWh, because according to the Cabinet of Ministers Regulation No. 78 “Regulations regarding the trade and use of natural gas”, for the purposes of the system user’s settlement of payments, kilowatt hours (kWh) are used. This means that we, as a natural gas provider, have an obligation to bill natural gas consumption in kilowatt hours. The following formula is used for conversion:
Natural gas volume (m³) × calorific value = natural gas volume (kWh).
For the convenience of clients, we have a measurement unit calculator, in which by entering your natural gas consumption in cubic metres and choosing the calorific value zone, you can quickly and easily convert your consumption into kilowatt hours.
As of June 2025, amendments to the Cabinet of Ministers regulations "Natural Gas Trade and Use Rules" have come into force, affecting the calculation procedure for consumed natural gas for customers:
The changes apply to gasified sites that do not have volume correctors (for temperature and pressure) installed.
For these customers, a static pressure coefficient of 1.02 will now also be applied when converting from m³ to kWh.
I have received an unusually large bill. How can I make sure there is no technical error or leak?
If you do not smell a specific odorant gas, you can rule out a leak. What to do if you smell gas?
The easiest way to make sure that the payment is calculated correctly is to compare the actual meter reading with the one listed on the bill. If you have not reported the readings for a long time, the reading calculated by "Gaso" AS may not correspond to the actual one. Therefore, if the meter reading indicated on the bill differs from the actual reading at the end of the billing period, contact us by writing to: info@lg.lv
Please include your name, subscriber number and the current meter reading in the email for the faster processing of incoming emails.
As a reminder – reporting periods for the readings are open from the 27th date of the current month to the first working day of the following month, regardless of consumption.
