Information about the opening of the natural gas market from 1 May 2023
What does the opening of the natural gas market mean?
According to the amendments to the Energy Law, the natural gas market will be fully open to households from 1 May 2023.
It means that Latvijas Gāze will continue to provide its customers with an uninterrupted supply of natural gas at the market price. As the section of the law on connected users will cease to apply, the natural gas price will no longer be calculated according to the methodology approved by the Public Utilities Commission (PUC).
As a reminder, the natural gas price is only one component of the total payment for natural gas and will be the only component that will differ between traders. More on the natural gas price and the other components.
What is the UNIVERSAL service?
As in the electricity market, in the gas market a UNIVERSĀLAIS pakalpojums has to be offered by each trader who wants to sell gas to households.
The conditions for the UNIVERSĀLAIS pakalpojums are regulated by Cabinet Regulation No. 78 Regulations Regarding the Trade and Use of Natural Gas.
The natural gas price for the UNIVERSĀLAIS pakalpojums includes the fee for the marketing service, the fee for the storage and transmission capacity services, and cannot exceed the reference price for natural gas published on the website of the distribution system operator GASO (www.gaso.lv) at the time of its determination.
UNIVERSĀLAIS pakalpojums conditions for Latvijas Gāze customers:
- Fixed natural gas price for 6 months, which will provide security and allow easier planning of expenses.
- Suitable both if you use natural gas for cooking and heating, as the natural gas price is differentiated depending on the annual consumption.
- No termination fee.
- Settlement according to monthly invoice.
Do I have to do anything when the natural gas market opens?
If you are already a customer of Latvijas Gāze, you do not need to renew your contract.
Natural gas will be supplied on the basis of the Energy Law as part of the UNIVERSĀLAIS pakalpojums, which is a safe and easy to understand service for customers.
Depending on the type of natural gas use and consumption, the customer has the possibility to change the existing service, to choose the most suitable one – FIKSĒTAIS or UNIVERSĀLAIS pakalpojums. Product calculator
What do I have to do to change the trader and conclude a contract with Latvijas Gāze?
If you currently purchase natural gas from another trader but would like to switch to Latvijas Gāze, please fill in the online application form or send us an application form to info@lg.lv.
If you conclude the contract by the 15th of the current month, the contract will take effect from the 1st of the next month. However, if you conclude the contract starting from the 16th of the current month, the contract will enter into force on the 1st of the following month.
We will send the contract to the e-mail address provided by you within 5 working days.
Do I have to renew my contract when the market opens? What will happen to my existing contract?
If you stay with Latvijas Gāze, the contract does not need to be renewed, we will supply natural gas on the basis of the Energy Law within the framework of the UNIVERSĀLAIS pakalpojums. Nothing needs to be done to receive the UNIVERSĀLAIS pakalpojums, it will be applied automatically.
The subscriber number are not changed, so your payment information when paying for natural gas remains unchanged.
The switch to the UNIVERSĀLAIS pakalpojums will be automatic, and the terms of the new contract will be prepared and available in the Customer Portal under the Contracts section. The existing contract will expire after all obligations (payment of invoices) have been fulfilled.
How do I find out the UNIVERSĀLAIS pakalpojums natural gas price for the next period?
Customers will be informed of the current price individually by sending information to the payment address of your choice.
